About Us
The Brick Kitchen is owned by husband and wife team, Shelly and Nate Whited.
So...you might be thinking, "These two opening a kitchen store, they must be Chefs, or mover-and-shakers in the culinary scene, right?"
Um...no. We like to cook. We like to bake. We like to mess around in the kitchen. (Emphasis on "mess.") We like trying new recipes. Sometimes those recipes come out great, and sometimes we make a last-minute run for pizza. We've also been known to set off the smoke alarm.
But our kitchen is always a fun place. There's always music while we're cooking-and sometimes a little dancing. From the time they were little we got our kids involved in the kitchen. (They have forbid us to post pictures!)
Our kitchen is the hub of activity. It's a place of laughs, family, friends, a few master creations, and a few disasters.
For these reasons, we've always found joy shopping at kitchen stores. We've always enjoyed the idea of, "If I only had a ______ then we could make ______!" and we proceeded to buy things we didn't know we needed.
It didn't take long for us to think out loud, "...I wonder if a store like that could work in Independence?"
And here we are.
Hopefully you'll find that The Brick Kitchen is like many other kitchens-your kitchen, our kitchen. A fun place filled with laughter, ideas, inspiration, creativity and the hope of Masterful Creations just around the corner.
And if not, we can recommend a couple good pizza places.
Our name “The Brick Kitchen” is inspired by the building that houses the store, known as, “King’s Hall." Kings Hall was built in 1876 as an Opera House and later transformed into a chicken hatchery - giving the building it's industrial look and feel. It’s a 20,000 square-foot brick building that even has brick on the ceiling of the store!
We would love for you to experience The Brick Kitchen. Stop in and get inspired!
